What if the defense doesn't send their sub off right away. They have 12 players but A has not broken their huddle yet and maybe doesn't break it for another 15 sec. or so. The defense is just standing there with 12 players waiting on A. Is this a foul? When do you call it an illegal substitution foul? Does the defense get any different time then the offense?
my crew will give the defensive sub up until the snap is "immenent".
Then at that time, rather than have the play go off and have illegal participation,
the BJ will flag it as a dead ball foul, illegal sub.
I agree. The defense can substitute up until the snap, so wait until it is imminent.
I agree. the intent of this is to prevent the offense from deceiving the defense. Therefore waiting until the snap is imminent to flag B for Ill. sub is a good call.
I will generally give the D until the O has lined up in their formation. If they haven't figured out by then they have 12, then they probably won't!
